By the way …. we made it home to Brighton!
We’ve been so busy getting back into the world of work and routine, that we’ve had no time to update the blog with the news that we’re home! We did finally make it back to Blighty, a week later than planned, but better late than never.
Hong Kong was a fun (expensive) place to be stuck and thanks to Steve James and Christian Peter we had an excellent time. From Ned Kelly’s Last Stand to Ocean Park, it was a laughter filled experience (apart from when we were stuck on hold for hours on end to Air New Zealand).
Being home is strange, but only because it doesn’t feel weird. Almost feels like we never left ….. but then we look back at this blog and instantly remember those fabulous, balmy days, weeks and months spent having the time of our lives. We’ll post our favourite photos and top 10 moments in a couple of days.
We may be stranded, but at least the signposts are good here. I’ve worked out that if we start walking now, covering 36 miles a day, we could be home in 166 days… or we could just wait for our new flight in two weeks…
Stranded in Hong Kong - help!
While the views over the city have been somewhat, er, obscured, the views of Hong Kong Harbour and the Festival of Lights have been spectacular.
Some more piccies from Po Lin Monastery…
We left Thailand with a bit of a cloud hanging over us, Hong Kong was to be our last stop before heading back home. Instead of moping around, we decided to make the most of our two days here, by heading out to see what this incredible city has to offer.
We have so far hopped onboard The Peak Tram, which boasts the best views across all of HK, and also visited the Po Lin Monastery by cable car, another landmark with spectacular views across the city and of the famous giant Buddha. I won’t go on about how wonderful the views were, you can see here for yourself…
Our last day in Koh Lanta was the start of Thai New Year, or Songkran. Instead of drowning their sorrows of times past, the Thai people just, er, drown each other instead. As we found out when the town errupted in a massive water fight. Naturally, we bought the biggest water guns we could find…
Bye Bye Phi Phi and Hello Koh Lanta. We arrived at this idyllic island yesterday and have already seen a sunset and sunrise that well and truly reminded us that we are in paradise. Koh Lanta is Phi Phi’s more chilled out neighbour, and so far it is living up to its reputation.
Yesterday we realised was our 6 mth wedding anniversary … doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun! So we watched the sunset with a Mojito in hand and had a jolly old time. This morning we were up before the sun, so strolled down Long Beach, which we had entirely to ourselves until the rest of the island woke up (apart from three stray, flea bitten dogs who followed us almost the entire way).
We think we’re going to like it here :)
“Under the Sea, Under the Sea. Darling it’s better down where it’s wetter, take it from me!” Well who can put it better than Sebastien the crab in Disney’s Little Mermaid? Not me!
Until this week I have not been a big fan of open water, always preferring to stay close to the shore, where I can make a quick escape from creepy creatures of the deep if necessary. However, when you’re going on a boat trip to Ko Phi Phi Lei, which was famously the backdrop to “The Beach” film and is so utterly picturesque that you don’t want to miss a thing, you kinda have to seize the day. So for the first time ever I swam with the fishes and snorkelled and put my head under water… and I loved every minute.
Fishes of every colour came to say hello to me and Kier, and the water was crystal clear and warm as a bath. After seeing the fish and Maya Beach, we went to visit Monkey Bay, where monkeys swung from the trees just like in Jungle Book. So all in all it was a Disney fairytale day of greatness. Happy days!
